Cheap and Simple Cleaning Hacks to Get Your Bathroom Spotless

Cleaning your bathroom properly doesn't have to be a painful chore if you just know some tips and tricks. Try out the hacks in this article to get every nook and cranny of your bathroom gleaming in no time.

These hacks involve cheap tools, products and ingredients that you likely already have in your home. You'll find that bicarbonate of soda (or baking soda) and white vinegar are the stars of the show when it comes to many easy cleaning hacks.

Easy cleaning hacks for a sparkling bathroom

1. Use a toothbrush to get rid of grout

Grout between bathroom tiles is one of the things we tend to put off cleaning, it seems so stubborn and hard to get rid of. However, all you need to easily scrub it off is a toothbrush dipped in a simple solution of two parts bicarbonate of soda and one part water.

This quickly and easily removes the grout. Just make sure you don't use your own toothbrush!

2. Grab some vinegar to clean your shower with

Simply fill a spray bottle with vinegar - we recommend warming the vinegar up in the microwave first and spraying it on hot - and spritz the vinegar on your shower tiles, door, and taps. Follow this by wiping them down with a clean microfibre cloth or sponge cloth.

Vinegar on its own won't really dissolve and remove grime and grease in your shower, so to do this add a couple of drops of dishwashing liquid to the vinegar - you can even just add it if you don't like the way vinegar smells on its own.

3. Clean your bathtub faster by sweeping it

It may sound weird to use a broom and sweep your bathtub, but you can use a clean broom and your cleaning product to scrub your bathtub instead of using a sponge. It's way quicker and surprisingly effective.

4. Eliminate drain odours with vinegar and bicarbonate of soda

We're back to bicarb and vinegar! If your drain is exuding that dreaded gunky, mouldy drain smell, you can deodorise it fast using these two household products.

Simply get a cup of bicarbonate of soda and tip it into the drain, followed by two cups of vinegar. Leave the mixture to fizz away for half an hour before pouring hot water into the drain to flush it all down.

5. Wipe your shower door panes with a squeegee

Squeegees aren't only good for car windows. Not only is using a squeegee to wipe water and soap off glass extremely satisfying because of how well it works, it is also a quick and painless to get your shower door panes shiny and clear, with no water spots.

6. Bicarb for mold and mildew

Mildew and mold spots thrive in warm and damp environments, and so have a habit of accumulating in bathrooms. Luckily, all it takes to remove those annoying black and grey spots is a paste of water and bicarbonate of soda.

Just whip up the paste, apply it to the mold and mildew stains and leave it to sit for three to four hours before rinsing it away. This hack also works well on stubborn spots.

7. Get water spots off chrome fixtures using a lemon

The chrome fixtures and fittings, such as taps, in sinks and showers are prone to water spots due to the fact they're constantly in contact with it.

However, it is easy to remove these unsightly, if harmless, water marks and get your chrome sparkling again - and bathroom smelling fresh - with a lemon. Just cut a lemon in half and rub it over the affected surfaces, and the spots will vanish immediately.
